Configuring IP Settings

Configure Internet Protocol (IP) settings for the everRun Enterprise system to set or modify the IP address of the system and nodes as well as values for applicable settings such as network mask, gateway address, and Domain Name System (DNS) server.

During installation and post-installation of everRun Enterprise software, you configure three IP addresses: one for the everRun Enterprise system and one for each node. You can change the IP addresses and other IP settings after installation using the procedures below. You must specify a static IPv4 address for the everRun Enterprise system.

Note: The procedure you use to configure IP settings depends on whether the everRun Enterprise system stays in the same subnet or moves to a new subnet. Follow the appropriate procedure for your needs.

To change the system and/or node IP settings (same subnet)

The everRun Enterprise system and all virtual machines (VMs) continue to run throughout this procedure; however, the everRun Availability Console briefly loses its connection to the system if you change the system IP address. You can access the everRun Availability Console at the new system IP address within 1-2 minutes. (You can change node IP addresses on each node, individually, but the console connection is not lost.)

  1. Click Preferences in the left-hand navigation panel, to open the Preference page.
  2. Click IP Configuration.
  3. Click the tab for one of the following: System IP, Node0 IP, or Node1 IP.
  4. Type appropriate values for the following settings, if available on the tab:
  5. Click Save to save the values (or click Reset to restore previous values).

If you have changed the system IP address, the Portal Restart Required dialog box appears. Wait about a minute and then click OK. This redirects the browser to the new system IP address.

  6. If appropriate, click the next tab, repeating steps 4 and 5.

To change the system and/or node IP settings (new subnet)

Changing the system IP settings for a new subnet typically includes changing the node's physical network connections (for example, disconnecting and then re-attaching network cables if moving the PMs). Before you disconnect cables from nodes, you must shut down the nodes.

Caution: Perform this procedure only during a planned maintenance period since you must shut down the nodes.
Prerequisites: Obtain the following IP addresses (in IPv4 format) from a network administrator:
  1. The existing IP address of the primary node—After you change the system IP address, you lose the connection to the everRun Availability Console. You use the existing IP address of the primary node to reconnect to the everRun Availability Console.
  2. The new system IP address and, if applicable, other new system IP settings.
  3. The new IP addresses for the nodes and, if applicable, other new node IP settings.
  1. Click Preferences in the left-hand navigation panel, to open the Preferences page.
  2. On the Preferences page, click IP Configuration.
  3. Click the System IP tab.
  4. Type the new system IP address (new subnet) for IP address. If appropriate, enter values for:
  5. Click Save to save the values.

The Portal Restart Required dialog box appears because you changed the system IP address. Click OK.

Note: When you click OK, you are redirected to the new system IP address, and your connection to everRun Availability Console is broken.
  6. Open a web browser and enter the existing IP address of the primary node, to re-connect to the everRun Availability Console.
  7. Shut down the system. See Shutting Down the System.
  8. Disconnect network cables, move the PMs to a new physical location, and/or attach the network cables to new switch ports, as appropriate for your needs.
  9. Power on each PM by physically pushing the power button on each machine.
  10. When the everRun Availability Console becomes available (within 10 to 15 minutes), open a web browser, type the new everRun system IP address and then log on.
  11. Navigate to IP Configuration of Preferences (see steps 1 and 2, above).
  12. Click the tab for Node0 or Node1.
  13. Type the new IP address for the node, and if appropriate, enter values for:
  14. Click Save to save the values.
  15. Repeat steps 12, 13, and 14 for the other node.
